Angel Wish: "I would like a Nintendo 3DS & some games!"

Diagnosis: Malignant Germ Cell Tumor
Indianapolis, IN

Germ cell tumors are growths that form from reproductive cells. Tumors may be cancerous or noncancerous. Most germ cell tumors that are cancerous occur as cancer of the testicles (testicular cancer) or cancer of the ovaries (ovarian cancer). Some germ cell tumors occur in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, brain and chest, though it's not clear why. Germ cell tumors that occur in places other than the testicles and ovaries (extragonadal germ cell tumors) are very rare.

Diagnosis: T-Cell Lymphoblastoma Leukemia (ALL-T)
Indianapolis, IN

This type of leukemia affects older children more than B-cell ALL does. It often causes an enlarged thymus (a small organ in front of the windpipe), which can sometimes lead to breathing problems. It may also spread to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF, the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord) early in the course of the disease.

Angel Wish: "I would like a wooden swing set!"

Diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
Indianapolis, IN

Since Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (or ALL) is a cancer of the blood, it does not have "stages" the way solid tumors do. By nature, leukemia is widespread at diagnosis, but this does not affect successful treatment. However, there are prognostic indicators for acute lymphoblastic leukemia that can predict how well a child will respond to treatment.
